January 4th	The Houston Bonsai Society holds their monthly general membership meeting.
4	Cooking class titled SUSHI will be taught at Central Market (Westheimer at Weslayan), 6:30 - 9:00 pm, by Chris Nemoto. Call 713-993-9860 for more information.
7	A play event for Japanese speaking children takes place at the Sansuikai Center. Call 281-493-1542 for further information.
10	The Houston Japanese Language Conversation Group holds a Japanese language meeting at Korea Garden at 7:00 pm. Like other MeetUp events, this is organized using the MeetUp WWW site, and an RSVP is required.
14	The Japanese Association of Greater Houston holds the Japanese community New Year party beginning at 1:00 pm. The cost for non-members is $10 per person. Contact the Japanese Association of Greater Houston for further details.
17	A charity concert is held at 8:00 pm at Duncan Recital Hall in support of eastern Japan earthquake-tsunami relief. Maiko Sasaki plays clarinet and piano, and Lachezar Kostov and Shino Hayashi play cello. This is described as a musical prayer for the continuous recovery efforts, featuring the music of Debussy. 19	A friendly conversation group (Oshaberi Kai) of the Japanese Association of Greater Houston meets at 1 pm in the Rice Village area for lunch and conversation.

21	Class Sushi & Sashimi 1 is taught at Leisure Learning, 3 to 6 pm, as class no. V4392A.
