| July 1st | A reception for astronaut Noguchi and other astronauts from the International Space Station 21st through 23rd crews will be held at Space Center Houston. Admission is free. This includes a video presentation and an awards ceremony. Call Space Center Houston for further information. |

| 13 | The Houston Japanese Language Group meets at 7:00 pm at the Ginza. This is also the annual Japanese Language Proficiency Test orientation meeting, so some members will bring books, practice exams, CDs, etc. used for studying for the JLPT, although this is not a study session in itself. This is a great opportunity for students and native speakers to speak Japanese in a casual setting. Like other MeetUp events, this is organized using the MeetUp WWW site. |

| July 31st | Houston's Ryukyu Taiko drum group participates in the Okinawa Eisa dance and drumming festival via the Internet and live in Houston, simultaneous with the festival at several cities in Japan and around the world. Due to time zones, this continues into the morning of August 1st in Houston. |
